The function of assembly line is multifarious and has many kinds. If the pipeline is classified according to the processing level, it can be divided into operational unit level, instruction level and processor level. If the assembly line can be classified according to the number of actions, it can be divided into single function and multi-function assembly line technology. If the pipeline is classified according to the connection mode of the functional components inside the pipeline, there are linear pipeline and nonlinear pipeline. There can also be scalar pipeline and vector pipeline.
Classification of assembly lines:
1. Classification according to completed functions:
Single-function pipeline: it can only complete one kind such as multiplication or floating point operation. It is mainly used in DIGITAL signal processor (DSP). Each processor can complete its own function in parallel to speed up the processing speed of the whole machine.
Multi-function pipeline: different function pipeline technology can be completed under different circumstances
2. Assembly line is divided by processing level:
Feature level: used when implementing more complex operations
Instruction level: The execution of an instruction is divided into multiple stages
Interprocessor level: Each processor completes its specific task.
3. Classification of assembly line manufacturing structure:
Linear pipeline: refers to the sequential serial connection of each functional module without feedback loop, as introduced previously.
Non-linear pipeline: pipeline with feedback loops.
4. Assembly lines are classified according to data types processed:
Scalar pipeline: Generic data
Vector pipeline: Vector data. X+Y=Z each represents one-dimensional data.
5. Assembly lines are classified by connection mode:
Static pipeline: multifunctional structures can only work in one connection mode at a time.
Dynamic pipeline: at the same time, can have multiple functions of the connection mode work at the same time.
